On November 1, 1909, a group of people in Dutchess County joined a small but rapidly-growing international movement, and founded a volunteer organization dedicated to providing assistance in time of war and disaster. These people may have been your great-grandparents. They may have worked with your grandfather, or lived next door to the place your parents grew up. The community recognized the value of this organization, and gave their time, energy and financial support to making it grow and thrive.
Almost one hundred years later, much remains the same at the Dutchess County Chapter of the American Red Cross. We still provide what is sometimes the only emergency communications link between deployed armed forces members and their loved ones here in Dutchess County. We still work every day to help those in need, especially after disasters both small and large. At fires and floods, you still see someone in Red Cross attire helping victims and providing support for emergency service workers. Our volunteers are still your next-door neighbors, friends and co-workers.
Our trained and certified instructors can help you save lives and meet special job requirements. When an emergency strikes, every second counts. Knowing how to help can mean the difference between life and death. That's why the American Red Cross urges everyone to be prepared to respond to life-threatening situations by taking Health & Safety classes
